Wednesday Walk: Sarah P. Duke Gardens

We will meet outside the visitor’s center near the entrance. The trails are easily navigated with any type of footwear, though a good walking shoe is recommended. Paths follow the terrain so there are natural inclines. Throughout the gardens are numerous benches and areas to rest. Public bathrooms, water fountains, and a snack bar are amenities available. Please bring with you those items that will enable you to have a pleasant walk and experience. Please note that the gardens charges $1 per half hour for parking on Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Areas of the garden to be explored will begin with those areas known to have reliable butterfly sightings. Additional locations will be visited depending upon time and interest. Butterflies that can be observed include skippers, swallowtails, sulphurs, duskywings–and more, depending upon the time of year.

Duke Gardens Spring Plant Sale

Come support the Carolina Butterfly Society at the Duke Gardens Spring Plant Sale! Plants will be available for purchase–be sure to arrive early as milkweeds sell out quickly! We will have live butterflies and chrysalises on display, as well as other educational materials, and information about our organization.

If you would like to help out at the event, please register. Your assistance for an hour or for the entire event would be greatly appreciated.
