The Triangle chapter serves the greater Raleigh-Durham area, Alamance County, and as far south as Sanford. Our chapter is very active in community outreach where we share our love of butterflies with fellow members of our community. We offer caterpillar raising, butterfly identification, and gardening workshops free to members. Non-members pay a nominal fee.
During the butterfly season from April through October we offer a series of walks that are regularly scheduled on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month. Please check our Events Calendar for more details about upcoming walks and locations.
Wednesday Walks for 2018 are scheduled for the 1st Wednesday of April, May, June, September, and October. We will cycle through the three area botanical gardens. These walks are perfect for people who are new to butterflying, may require access to public amenities, or prefer a leisurely stroll along smooth paths. Newcomers and veteran butterfliers are welcome. All walks are free to members.
Advanced Wednesday Walks are scheduled for the 3rd Wednesday of of April, May, June, and September. These walks are suitable for those who are able to enjoy a more vigorous walk along rustic trails and don’t require public amenities. They will take place at natural areas, parks, and preserves within the Triangle. Newcomers are welcome to join as well as veteran butterfliers. All walks are free to members.
Come see us at local events within the Raleigh-Durham area! In 2018 we will be at the Duke Gardens Spring Plant Sale, the NCBG Spring Plant Sale, the 2nd Annual Butterfly Day at Big Bloomers Flower Farm, and the Museum of Natural Sciences’ Bug Fest. If you are interested in having the Triangle Chapter participate in your community outreach event, please use the main contact form and select either Guest Speaker or Community Outreach as the subject.
